Executive Summary

This case study demonstrates how I applied product roadmap principles to instructional design, creating a strategic learning pathway for healthcare professionals. The ATLAS platform represents a significant achievement in healthcare education, with 2,300+ global users and an exceptional 57.8% completion rate. This document outlines my approach to roadmap planning, stakeholder management, and strategic implementation that would bring similar value to Bethanie's learning ecosystem.

Challenge

Background

Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA needed to develop a comprehensive educational program aligned with the National Strategic Action Plan for Arthritis. The primary challenges included:

  • Fragmented Knowledge: Clinical rheumatoid arthritis practices varied widely across healthcare settings

  • Evolving Evidence Base: Rapid advances in treatment approaches needed integration into practice

  • Diverse Learner Needs: Content needed to serve physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and researchers

  • Geographic Distribution: Users across Australia and internationally required consistent yet contextually relevant learning

  • Measurement Standards: Need to demonstrate tangible improvements in clinical knowledge and practice

Strategic Objective

Create a learning roadmap that would systematically address knowledge gaps, build a sustainable learning ecosystem, and meet accreditation requirements across multiple healthcare disciplines.

Approach

1. Current State Analysis

I conducted a comprehensive analysis to establish our starting point:

  • Stakeholder Interviews: Conducted 15+ interviews with clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates

  • Content Audit: Mapped existing resources against identified knowledge gaps

  • Learning Ecosystem Assessment: Evaluated technical infrastructure and integration requirements

  • Competitive Landscape: Researched similar healthcare education platforms to identify differentiators

2. Roadmap Development

I created a strategic learning roadmap with clear phases:

Show Image

Phase 1: Foundation (Q1-Q2 2023)

  • Core clinical knowledge modules

  • Basic assessment tools

  • Fundamental treatment approaches

Phase 2: Advanced Practice (Q3-Q4 2023)

  • Complex case management

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration models

  • Patient communication strategies

Phase 3: Specialization & Expansion (Q1-Q2 2024)

  • Specialized population considerations

  • Geographic content variations

  • Research application modules

Phase 4: Ecosystem Integration (Q3-Q4 2024)

  • CPD/CME certification integration

  • Clinical practice tool development

  • Learning community features

3. Stakeholder Engagement

I developed a comprehensive stakeholder management approach:

  • Clinical Advisory Group: Established quarterly review cadence

  • User Testing Cohorts: Created representative groups for feedback cycles

  • Accreditation Bodies: Maintained ongoing dialogue with credential-granting organizations

  • Technical Partners: Coordinated with LMS providers on capacity planning

4. Implementation Strategy

My implementation approach focused on:

  • Release Planning: Structured module release schedule aligned with clinical priorities

  • Feedback Loops: Built-in evaluation mechanisms at key learning milestones

  • Resource Allocation: Identified SME and development requirements for each phase

  • Risk Management: Anticipated potential blockers and prepared mitigation strategies

Results

The ATLAS learning roadmap delivered exceptional outcomes:

Learner Impact

  • 2,300+ Users: 1,598 Australian and 704 international healthcare professionals

  • 57.8% Completion Rate: Significantly exceeded industry average (20-30%)

  • 4.8/5 Satisfaction Rating: Maintained across all modules

  • Professional Recognition: Co-authored abstract presented at the 2024 Australian Rheumatology Association conference

Organizational Value

  • Formal Endorsement: Secured Australian Rheumatology Association endorsement

  • Resource Optimization: Structured roadmap allowed efficient allocation of development resources

  • Reputation Enhancement: Established organization as a leader in educational innovation

  • Sustainable Growth: Created framework for ongoing content expansion

Technical Achievements

  • Geographic Segmentation: Implemented Zapier automations to identify NZ learners and deliver culturally appropriate content

  • Automated Workflows: Eliminated manual processes for affiliate organization enrollment

  • Scalable Architecture: Designed for content expansion without platform redevelopment

Application to Bethanie

This roadmap approach would provide significant value to Bethanie's learning needs by:

  1. Aligning Learning with Strategic Goals: Structuring training to support Bethanie's mission to "positively change the way Australians experience ageing"

  2. Supporting Regulatory Readiness: Creating a systematic approach to training on the new Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards implementation (July 2025)

  3. Enhancing Brand Consistency: Ensuring all learning content reflects Bethanie's faith-based values and Six Signature Behaviors

  4. Optimizing Resource Utilization: Providing clear timelines and resource requirements for effective planning

  5. Measuring Impact: Establishing mechanisms to demonstrate ROI on learning investments through care quality improvements

Reflection & Transferable Skills

The ATLAS roadmap project developed several competencies directly applicable to the Bethanie Instructional Designer role:

  • Strategic Planning: Ability to align learning initiatives with organizational objectives

  • Stakeholder Management: Experience engaging diverse clinical experts, similar to Bethanie's need for SME collaboration

  • Technical Integration: Proven capability implementing automations that enhance learner experience

  • Change Management: Skills in guiding users through evolving learning systems

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Experience using learning analytics to refine content and approach

This case study represents my approach to strategic learning planning that would benefit initiatives while supporting the organization's mission of excellence in aged care.
